SEASONAL LABORER
MAINTENANCE SERVICES DEPARTMENT
SUMMARY: Under supervision, performs unskilled or limited, semi-skilled work in the routine maintenance and repair of facilities and grounds, operates power mowers, trimmers, and small trucks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)
- Mowing, trimming in parks and city property
- picking up refuse
- Cleaning restrooms, shelters, and other city facilities.
- Assists skilled personnel in the maintenance, repair and improvement of grounds and facilities.
- Plants, waters, and cultivates small flowerbeds, trees, and shrubs.
- Assists skilled personnel in shoveling asphalt, sand, gravel, mulch, and dirt by hand.
- Performs maintenance and painting on outside structures using hand tools.
- Operates non-CDL vehicles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
knowledge of types and applications of common tools, machinery and equipment used in grounds and building maintenance.
Knowledge of routine grounds and building maintenance methods and techniques.
Ability to perform physical activities frequently at a medium heavy demand level.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform unskilled tasks in construction or maintenance activities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: There is frequent need to sit, drive; there is moderate need to stand, walk, climb, twist, bend, stoop, talk or hear, use hands to finger, lift to and over fifty (50); and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Position is subject to overtime, emergency call out, and working in inclement weather. The City of East Moline promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is required. Valid Illinois or Iowa driver's license required.
