Job Description



Reports to: Aquatics Director

Classification: Non-Exempt / Part-Time

Salary: $17.00 - $20.00 Per Hour


General Description:

Responsible for creating and facilitating workouts for swimmers, attending daily practices, attending all meets, and maintaining swimmer safety.


Essential Functions:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Enforce all facility policies, rules, and regulations
  • Attend all practices and swim meets
  • Educate swimmers on water safety
  • Use a range of activities to improve water confidence
  • Develop and implement training programs that focus on improving technique, stroke placement, speed, and style
  • Set training goals and objectives for teams as well as individual swimmers
  • Ensure the pool and training area is clean, well-maintained, and free of hazards
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as measure attendance and provide records or reports as necessary
  • Participate in all coaching meetings and in-service training sessions
  • Other duties as assigned



Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.



Education and Training:

- At least a High School Diploma


Experience:

- Background in competitive swimming either as a coach or swimmer

- Two (2) - Three (3) years of coaching experience with various age groups


License or Certifications:

- CPR/AED Certification

- USA Swimming Coach Certification

  • If not already certified, must be able to obtain within 60 days of hire

**Must be able to pass a mandatory background investigation before commencement of employment**


Knowledge and Abilities:

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.


Knowledge of:

  • Swim strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle
  • Water safety, CPR, and first-aid
  • Skills such as flips, kicks, body rolls, floating, and breath control
  • Basic computer software and ability to learn new programs

Ability to:

  • Model appropriate professional behavior, energy, attitude, and motivation for swimmers and coaches
  • Ensure safety of all participants at all times
  • Determine swimming level and analyze techniques
  • Develop community relationships and recruit new swimmers
  • Build effective, authentic relationships with swimmers, families, and staff

Environment:

Work environment is primarily indoors in an aquatics center setting with some office work as well as travel to different sites and locations



Physical:

Primary functions require the ability to hear distress noises and hear and see distress signals in a noisy aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility; long periods of sitting or standing in a hot, humid and noisy environment; to sit, stand, walk, grab, pull and push objects in or out of water, squat down, stoop, kneel, crouch and jump; lift up to 50 pounds; to travel to other locations using various modes of transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
