The City of East Lansing is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team as an Inspector II – Plan Reviewer/Building Inspector. This is a key position within the city's Building Department responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of residential and commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in plan review and building inspection, strong knowledge of Michigan building codes, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment and contribute directly to the responsible growth and development of the East Lansing community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Reviewing building plans and specifications for compliance with the Michigan Residential Code, Michigan Building Code, and related regulations.
  • Conducting on-site inspections of construction and remodeling projects to ensure code compliance.
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing detailed reports on inspection activities.
  • Providing technical support and code interpretation to contractors, developers, and the public.
  • Collaborating with other inspectors and departments to ensure smooth project execution.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Additional education or training in Architecture, Engineering, Building Codes, or Zoning Regulations is highly desirable.

Minimum of four (4) years of experience in plan review and construction inspection.

LICENSING & CERTIFICATION:
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Plan Reviewer and Building Inspector Registration issued by the State of Michigan.<
br> Must have a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and a strong driving record.
