What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Enforcement Specialist - Part-Time position at City of East Lansing?
Performs a variety of activities relating to investigation and inspection of residential structures and vacant lands to determine compliance with City Codes, including the minimum housing standards, litter, nuisance and zoning ordinances; maintains records and prepares reports on projects inspected and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Responsible for investigating and responding to complaints related to rental license occupancy issues, such as over occupancy and renting without a rental license. Administers the vacant property registration program. Represents the City at various community meetings. Maintains and analyzes data to be used in assisting with policy decisions related to housing. Assists the Housing Administrator with various projects and rental licensing issues. Requires consistent interaction with the public. Enforcement actions required and will include issuing tickets and appearing in court as a witness.
Qualifications
- Possession of an associate’s degree in a related field supplemented by specialized knowledge in some or all of the following areas: law enforcement, building construction, inspection services, construction codes, including structure and electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems and three-years’ work experience dealing directly with the public, required, but may be substituted with equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
- Experience in inspection work preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required.
- Computer data entry skills, required.
- Must possess an unrestricted Michigan driver’s license, with an excellent driving record. Use of personal vehicle required.
