Assistant Street Maintenance Supervisor position.
This position exercises indirect supervision, coordination, and participation in the location, inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's street maintenance functions to maintain high-quality service to the public. Candidates should be proficient in personal computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, familiar with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, have experience in the construction and/or inspection of street infrastructure, and have the ability to provide leadership in the City’s snow and ice control operations.

Essential Position Functions
- Assist Streets Engineering Tech with Pavement Management/Sealcoat Management:
- Street, trail, parking lots and other pavement evaluation to determine condition and project rehabilitation.
- Centerline striping and pavement documentation and messaging.
- Coordination of inspection and follow-up documentation, including contractual repairs.
- Street Maintenance:
- Assist with evaluation of bituminous street maintenance, concrete curb and sidewalk repair.
- Documentation and mapping street maintenance activities.
- Map annual plow and sweeping routes.
- Respond to street-related concerns and make corrective action recommendations.
- Contribute to development of long and short-range street maintenance programs.
- Streetlights, Sign, and Traffic Signals:
- Assist with inspections and coordinate maintenance.
- Coordinate traffic sign inventory and replacement plan.
- Leadership:
- Provide support for the Street and Fleet Divisions.
- Assist Street Maintenance Supervisor in snow and ice control operations.
- Serve as Street Maintenance Supervisor int heir absence.
- Data Management:
- Collaborate to administer and maintain Fleet Management software.
- 5-year C.I.P. for street, trail, streetlight, and other right-of-way assets.
- Manage and maintain the Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system, analyze and compile reports.
- Coordinate Emergency Preparedness Plan, C.I.P. research.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, memos and spreadsheets.
- High School Diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Possession of a Minnesota Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Medical Self-Certification Category 2 (or Category 1), Interstate, with no air brake restrictions and tank vehicle endorsement or the ability to obtain one within 6 month of hire date.
- Two (2) years of post-secondary degree from an accredited vocational/technical college or comparable educational institution related to Public Works discipline such as Civil Engineering, Public Works, Public Administration, or similar field.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience and/or education in the construction, maintenance and/or inspection of street infrastructure and related functions
- Knowledge of:
- The principles and practices of the construction and maintenance of street infrastructure including materials, methods, techniques, and equipment.
- The use of tools and equipment associated with construction of street infrastructure.
- ERSI GIS software and applications and CAD software or other similar software programs.
- City/governmental Public Works operations.
- Computerized pavement and sign management systems.
- Skilled in:
- Oral and written communications including research and preparation of reports and records.
- Personal computer and spreadsheet programs, including but not limited to Word, Excel and Publisher.
- Creating and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Supervising, training, and motivating personnel.
- Ability to:
- Be an independent worker and self-motivated.

- Six (6) years of experience in the construction of street infrastructure or street maintenance operations.
- Certified in bituminous maintenance from a qualified school.

- 60% Field; 40% Office
- Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week with frequent additional hours before and/or after the normal workday and work week; occasional evening meetings. FLSA Exempt position. Employee shall be available and required to carry a City issued cell phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency call outs. Position requires frequent extended hours response for weather related operations.
