Description

As the Recreation Supervisor - Programs, you’ll play a key role in enriching the lives of our community members by designing, organizing, and leading recreation and sports programs for all ages. Programs range from softball, kickball, and volleyball leagues to activities like mountain biking, BMX, lacrosse, hockey, soccer, skiing, snowboarding, and more. You’ll help create welcoming spaces by managing facilities, hiring and supporting staff, and developing programs that reflect the needs and interests of our community. Through thoughtful planning, marketing, and evaluation, you’ll ensure our programs stay vibrant, inclusive, and impactful.

Essential Job Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role:

  • Plan and run recreational activities, programs, leagues, and tournaments for youth, teens, adults, and seniors
  • Create and implement new programs and micro-events, with an emphasis on outdoor education, teens, seniors, and other underserved populations
  • Develop and manage league schedules, brackets, and tournaments; create, update, and follow program manuals, guidelines, and regulations
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff and volunteers; conduct performance evaluations and provide accurate payroll reporting
  • Schedule and manage the use of recreational facilities (parks, sports fields, gyms, etc.) and handle basic upkeep, such as cleanup, lining fields, and maintaining equipment
  • Track inventory, order supplies, and update equipment
  • Assess community needs and gather feedback to guide program development
  • Implement marketing and advertising strategies to increase participation in programs and leagues
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff and the community through effective communication
  • Prioritize safety, high-quality customer service, and business development
  • Help develop and monitor expenses for the Recreation Division budget
  • Perform “Manager on Duty” responsibilities on a rotating schedule
  • Attend and participate on relevant city teams as well as departmental meetings and focus groups

Minimum Qualifications

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in recreation, physical education, leisure studies, sociology, communications, or a related field
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in recreation services, including one year of supervisory experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and CPR/AED and First Aid Certification

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Bring knowledge of recreation, leisure, and sports program operations and best practices
  • Enjoy leading, coaching, and supporting staff and volunteers in a team environment
  • Are comfortable using and maintaining tools, light equipment, and power-operated machinery
  • Can collect, organize, and communicate information to support planning and decision-making
  • Are prepared for active work that may include both light and heavy physical tasks
  • Work well independently, stay self-motivated, and keep supervisors informed when support or updates are needed
