As an Administrative Specialist in the City of Durango’s Public Works Department, you’ll provide complex administrative support to the department’s five divisions while reporting to the Public Works Administrative Services Manager. In this role, you’ll prepare documents and reports, coordinate meetings and calendars, and serve as an important point of contact for both staff and the public.

The starting pay for this position is between $21.33 and $23.46 an hour, with opportunities for growth up to $29.86 per hour based on long-term growth and performance within the role.

It’s five divisions—Engineering & Stormwater, Utilities, Capital Improvements, Streets, and Trash & Recycle—work together to support public safety, environmental health, and the local economy. Essential Job Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role:


  • Prepare and proofread reports, letters, statistical charts, correspondence, and other documents.
  • Process purchase invoices and purchasing card transactions to support departmental operations.
  • Maintain filing systems, records, and department calendars; coordinate meetings and events with staff, the public, and outside agencies.
  • Attend and assist with meetings by preparing agendas, recording and preparing minutes, and distributing information.
  • Provide customer service in person and by phone, including answering questions, accepting applications or payments, and addressing inquiries.
  • Prepare departmental reports, statistical records, press releases, and legal notices in compliance with legal requirements and departmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Operate office equipment and software to enter and retrieve data, manage files, and support daily operations.
  • Assist with projects, special assignments, and other departmental tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

You Have:


  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in administrative support.
