The City of Durango’s Information Technology Department is hiring a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst to join our team and drive data-driven decision-making across the organization. In this position, you will perform various tasks related to the design, development, testing, launch, and maintenance of geographic data resources. You’ll manage data conversion, preparation, cleaning, standardizing, normalizing, integrating, implementing, and logical mapping. - Develop spatial databases for infrastructure mapping and geographic analysis.
- Collaborate with City staff to identify, design, test, and implement GIS datasets and interfaces.
- Apply GIS spatial analysis concepts (geoprocessing, geocoding, linear referencing, dynamic segmentation, and overlay analysis) to solve real-world problems.
- Update and maintain GIS databases for all City departments, integrating existing data and migrating data between AutoCAD and ESRI systems.
- Train staff on the use of GIS interfaces, database design, and content.
- Develop and refine methodologies for map preparation, editing, data entry, and plotting.
- Plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative methods to gather and analyze spatial data, synthesizing it into maps, tables, reports, views, and other formats.
- Analyze engineering, public safety, and community development data into quantitative and qualitative analytics that are mathematical, spatial and engineering-based in nature.
- Maintain ESRI mapping solutions for the 911 Emergency Communication Center, City Departments, and Durango citizens.
- Assign and update addresses in accordance with National Emergency Number Association (NENA) standards and notify relevant users of changes.
- Understand and manage the City’s Lucity Asset Management system.
- Assist the GIS Supervisor in maintaining and upgrading the GIS ESRI server infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in GIS digital mapping, cartography, geoprocessing, programming, spatial and statistical analysis, and engineering surveying.
- Knowledge of advanced practices, processes, and methods of GIS-based mapping and data management.
- Proficiency in digitizing and data manipulation procedures for GIS.
- Ability to analyze data and develop logical solutions to complex computer application problems.
- Skill in reading and interpreting technical publications, manuals, legal descriptions, and maps.
- Familiarity with general symbols and terminology used in civil, architectural, or electronic engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in Python and experience with GIS software (both desktop and online platforms) preferred.
