Parks & Animal Control Coordinator The Parks & Animal Control Coordinator is a dual-role position responsible for maintaining and enhancing City parks, facilities, and open spaces while also enforcing animal control ordinances and promoting public safety. This position supports community quality of life through park maintenance, animal welfare services, and public engagement. Supervision Exercised Supervises part-time and seasonal staff as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Parks Maintenance & Operations Supervises and performs maintenance of all City parks, open spaces, and recreation facilities Maintains parks to a professional standard including mowing, weed control, irrigation, and general upkeep Operates and maintains equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and other tools Maintains records for equipment, vehicles, and maintenance activities Orders supplies and materials needed for park operations Ensures safety of assigned staff and park users Animal Control & Public Safety Patrols city streets for animals running at large Responds to citizen complaints and service requests regarding animals Enforces City animal control ordinances and issues citations as necessary Impounds stray, abandoned, or dangerous animals and coordinates transfer to appropriate facilities Provides care, feeding, and cleaning of animals and pound facilities Maintains accurate records and reports related to animal control activities Educates the public on animal welfare, licensing, and responsible ownership General Duties Performs data entry and maintains computerized records Assists with special projects and seasonal operations Responds to emergencies as required Performs other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Valid Montana Drivers License High school diploma or GED Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills Knowledge of or ability to learn: Park maintenance practices and irrigation systems Animal handling and control techniques Operation of equipment including trucks, mowers, hand and power tools, traps, and radios Commitment to animal welfare and community service Preferred Qualifications Experience in parks maintenance, animal control, or related field CPR and AED certification Mechanical aptitude or equipment maintenance experience Prior supervisory experience Veterans preference may apply (DD214 may be required). Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and use of tools and equipment Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally Work outdoors in varying weather conditions Exposure to animals and potentially hazardous situations Work Environment & Expectations Combination of outdoor fieldwork and facility-based duties Interaction with the public, including potentially sensitive or enforcement-related situations Availability to respond to emergency situations as needed Additional Information The duties listed are representative and not exhaustive.
