Distinguishing Features of the Class
The Fleet Services Service Person performs various maintenance and custodial duties at the Fleet Services Facility. This position completes a variety of physical laboring tasks and semi-skilled work in connection with the Fleet Services operation, and performs related work as required.
The initial assigned work hours for this position are 1:00pm to 9:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Acceptable Experience and Training

Acceptable Experience and Training
- Graduation from High School or possession of a GED; and
- Some experience in lubrication of light and heavy equipment; or
- Some experience in an automotive shop; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen;
- Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) allowing the operation of vehicles with Airbrakes upon appointment or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Cleans automotive parts and steam cleans motors;
- Lubricates, changes oil and other fluids and filters on a variety of City-owned equipment.
- Changes and repairs tires on vehicles and equipment;
- Washes and cleans vehicles;
- Picks up and delivers vehicles;
- Performs custodial duties in shop and office areas;
- Assists mechanics, welders, and other skilled trades in performing maintenance and repairs to equipment;
- Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
- Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;
- Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
- Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
