Upon immediate supervision, to perform maintenance and construction of roads and other City facilities. This role involves performing a variety of tasks to ensure roadways, sidewalks and drainage systems are safe, functional and well-maintained.

Acceptable Experience and Training
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
- One (1) year experience in road or other construction work.
Required Special Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Iowa Class B CDL with tank endorsement and allowing the operation of vehicles with airbrakes.
- Candidates for positions in this class must pass a pre-employment background check, physical examination and drug screen.
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
- Breaks, tamps and finishes bituminous asphalt material to provide an even thickness;
- Runs a small roller over asphalt patches and applies proper heat and pressure to obtain a smooth surface;
- Assists in a variety of construction tasks and operates simple pneumatic tools and air hammers;
- Spreads and tamps gravel properly to ensure road surfaces are safe and functional;
- Loads and unloads trucks by hand or by operating equipment;
- Removes snow from streets and sidewalks using public works vehicles;
- Applies salt, anti-icing and de-icing chemicals to roads;
- Patches, repairs and seals holes in streets with hot asphalt;
- Trims brush cleared from right of way;
- Assists in digging and resetting manhole covers;
- Operates dump trucks and similar equipment;
- Performs related work as required.
