Summary
Responsible for assisting elementary school children in crossing the street at designated intersections in a safe and orderly manner.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
Essential Functions:
- Stops traffic flow across streets and intersections that may or may not have a permanent stop sign
- Places traffic cones in the street before school begins and removes at end of school as needed
- Notifies police headquarters of real or potential hazards and pedestrian accidents in the vicinity
- Ability to get along with customers and co-workers
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
Basic knowledge of municipal traffic regulations
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- Ability to establish friendly relations and maintain order among elementary school children
- Ability to read and write
- Ability and agility to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies
- Ability to be diplomatic and tactful, yet decisive and firm
- Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must be able to work 3 hours daily, morning and afternoon, on DISD school days
