Performs various duties in the water distribution, wastewater collection, water quality and meter service areas. Routinely performs investigations of collection lines and interceptors. Documents lines in need of repair or maintenance. Locates manholes and maintains accessibility for routine maintenance. Monitors chlorine residuals in the distribution system and conducts routine flushing to manage water age in the system. Performs flow testing, painting, clearing, and upkeep of fire hydrants and flush points. May support staff and contractors with maintenance, repairs, and additions to the city’s infrastructure in a safe and timely manner. Operates various pieces of equipment and tools according to proper operation procedures. The employee performs related work as required.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Respond to customer water quality complaints.
  2. Routinely flush dead-end lines in accordance with state regulations.
  3. Routinely inspect sewer mains and interceptors for proper operation.
  4. Maintain accessibility to major sewer lines and problem areas.
  5. Report areas in the collection system in need of repair or maintenance.
  6. Performs flow tests of City owned hydrants and flush points, and issues reports to stakeholders and for internal records. 
  7. Supports geolocating of infrastructure and updates to the City’s GIS records. 
  8. Documents and schedules work to ensure compliance with state and City requirements. 
  9. Maintains accurate records of work performed.
  10. Transports materials to assist other staff as required by driving City vehicles to work sites. 
  11. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Good knowledge of the methods and procedures used in maintaining water quality in the distribution system. 
  2. Good knowledge of the geographical layout of the City and the location of sewer and water lines.
  3. Good knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  4. Good knowledge of safe work practices. 
  5. Good knowledge of operational characteristics of chlorine analyzers and pressure gauges. 
  6. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
  7. Good knowledge of principles and procedures of customer service. 
  8. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  9. Ability to read and accurately record analytical data, pressure gauges and meters. 
  10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
  11. Skill in demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff; act in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  12. Ability to learn troubleshooting methods and techniques to analyze problems in the field. 
  13. Ability to read maps and locate addresses.
  14. Ability to work in the field under adverse weather conditions and to stand and walk for long periods of time. 
  15. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  16. Ability to utilize computer hardware and software relating to work and field equipment. 
  17. Ability to learn to operate associated software systems quickly and efficiently. 
  18. Ability to create and distribute multiple reports in the software systems. 
  19. Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer, laptop
  20. Ability to maintain consistent timely attendance.

  • Must have high school diploma/GED
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver license
  • Must have a Distribution and a Collections licenses issued by the TCEQ or ability to receive within 12 months of employment. 
  • Must have good knowledge of the Denison distribution and collection system or ability to learn within 6 months of employment 
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, background, and motor vehicle record check

  • Ability to withstand frequent standing and walking
  • Ability to withstand frequently carrying and lifting objects ranging from 1-25 pounds
  • Ability to withstand occasionally carrying and lifting objects ranging from 25-50 pounds
  • Duties are performed daily both indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions and include exposure to inclement weather, noise, heavy traffic conditions, exhaust fumes, and pesticide.

Salary : $40,504 - $56,223
