Sign Technician

Responsible for serving as a lead in performing work related to installing traffic signs, banners and pavement markings in accordance with standards and regulations. Duties include assigning and monitoring work and instructing others in methods and procedures.

1. Serves as a lead to other sign staff, which includes: prioritizing, assigning and monitoring work; providing direction; and/or performing other related activities.
2. Builds, installs and maintains traffic signage and banners
3. Installs and maintains pavement markings and permanent barricades
4. Installs traffic control devices needed for temporary traffic work zones
5. Prepares and maintains a variety of records, data, and/or other related information
6. Participates in overseeing the work of external contractors, ensuring that contract terms and specifications are met
7. Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

1. Knowledge of inventory procedures and processes
2. Good knowledge of departmental and divisional software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
3. Progressive knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials used in the assigned work area preferred
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public
5. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
6. Ability and sufficient skill in writing to complete simple records
7. Ability to withstand frequent standing and walking
8. Ability to turn knobs, levers, cranks, wrenches, valves and handles
9. Ability to step up or down to enter or exit City properties
10. Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a High School Diploma/GED
• Requires a valid Commercial Texas Driver’s License (CDL)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• One year of signs and marking experience preferred

• Must be able to climb ladders, kneel, stoop, bend, twist, crawl, see, talk, hear, read, write, walk, push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment and material; 
• Ability to frequently bend, climb, reach overhead and below shoulder level while performing job duties
• Work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and muddy terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; 
• Work in adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather and hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fumes, odors, dust/mist, chemicals and exposure to insects

Salary : $36,764 - $48,528
