Non-Smoking

The City of Delray Beach is a Non-Tobacco Workplace. Semi-skilled and manual work in installing and painting barricades and signs. Work is performed under close supervision.

  • Hours of Work: Mon-Fri.: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm**

Essential Job Duties

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Install signs and dig postholes.
  • Paint, clean and maintain signs.
  • Operate grinder.
  • Install and take down barricades and/or aerial banners.
  • Drive sign and/or bucket truck.
  • Perform work on traffic controls.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Personal Characteristics

  • Knowledge of traffic sign installation procedures.
  • Knowledge of operations of simple paints spraying equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to assemble signs.
  • Ability to generate simple street signs using sign equipment.
  • Ability to measure for layout of road markings.
  • Skill in the use of common hand tools.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Skill in reading and writing the English language.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Entry level mechanical aptitude preferred.

Licenses, Certifications Or Registrations

  • Must possess a Level I IMSA certification or obtain it within one (1) year from the hire date.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Class B, CDL, or obtain it within six months from hire.

It is the policy of the City of Delray Beach that persons having a CDL and participating in activities regulated by DOT are subject to drug testing and alcohol testing. The Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 requires alcohol and drug testing of safety-sensitive employees in aviation, motor carriers, railroad, and mass transit industries. Provisions of this policy are based upon said Act and the relevant federal regulations applicable to the Act. As a condition of employment, The City of Delray Beach reserves the right to require all employees having a CDL and performing safety-sensitive activities regulated by DOT, to submit at any time to drug and/or alcohol testing to determine the presence of prohibited substances.

The abilities expected of all employees include being able to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies, be appropriately groomed and attired so as to present a professional image in accordance with the organization's mission, goals, and policies; report for work promptly and properly prepared at the time and place required by the assignment or orders; notify the appropriate supervisor of intended absences in accordance with stated rules; conform with standards and rules regarding use of accrued time; demonstrate a polite, helpful and courteous manner when engaged in any activity with the public; operate and care for equipment to manufacturer's specifications and/or within the specified parameters; demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and colleagues.

A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Works outside in various weather conditions. Heights (up to 10 feet), uneven surfaces and In or around moving vehicles and traffic
