Non-Smoking

The City of Delray Beach is a Non-Tobacco Workplace. Carpentry and incidental work in the maintenance, repair, and alteration of buildings and other tangible property of the City. Work is performed under general supervision.

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Perform carpentry and incidental work related to buildings and facilities owned by the City.
  • Obtain the necessary permits and schedule inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Assist building maintenance workers in daily maintenance functions (such as, janitorial, custodian or painting or electrical projects, moving furniture and other objects), as needed.
  • Perform semi-skilled tasks in electrical, plumbing, painting, drywall, concrete, tile and patchwork.
  • Conduct safety inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Prepare estimates and process work requests.
  • Install, maintain, repair, replace, design, and build carpentry related work, structures and products,
  • Perform all functions and responsibilities according to the, Palm Beach County Code of Ethics and Florida State Statutes 112.313.
  • Does related work as required.
  • High school graduate or equivalency diploma.
  • Training in the carpentry trade and one or more of the crafts of the building construction and related contracting trades.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the discipline of carpentry as related to residential, commercial, and light industrial applications.

Knowledge and skills in the use of both power and hand tools related to the construction and maintenance industry, particularly those related to woodwork. Ability to perform manual labor, building repairs, maintenance, and construction. Ability to read, write, and interpret blueprints and shop drawings and estimate jobs. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships. Skill and experience necessary to qualify as a certified Specialty Trade Contractor in Palm Beach County.

License, Certification Or Registration

  • Valid Florida Class "E" Driver's License and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Specialty Trade Carpentry Certification (Palm Beach County) or equivalency

A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color perception and the ability to adjust focus. Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). Works inside and outside in various weather conditions with noise and dust. Works with electrical energy. May work in poor lighting.
