ADA Compliance Committee Member

The City of Delaware invites individuals who are eager to share their time, talents, knowledge and expertise in service to the community to apply for appointment to its various boards, commissions, and committees. These groups vary in number of members, term length, purpose and scope of responsibility, yet all play an essential and meaningful role in supporting effective local governance and community engagement. Some appointments require applicants to reside within the City or a specific ward. All appointments are voluntary and uncompensated.

Per Chapter 163 - Americans with Disabilities Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance Committee is composed of five (5) members, appointed by the Mayor, with the consent of Council. Mayor shall designate a chairperson to conduct the business of the Committee. Composition of the Committee shall include not less than two (2) persons with a disability, as defined by the ADA. Members shall be residents of the City. There are no term limits for this committee. 

Responsibilities of the Committee include:

• Establishing ground rules or procedures for hearing complaints referred to it by the ADA Coordinator regarding alleged discrimination in access to and participation in public facilities, services, employment, activities and functions in the City.
• Conduct public hearings of complaints and render written recommendation in accordance with the grievance procedures established in 163.07.
