MAINTENANCE WORKER I - STORMWATER

Department:  Public Works/Stormwater

Exempt: No

Reports To: Foreman
Pay $16.75/hourly

Job Summary:

This position performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks under direct supervision of a Foreman, Lead Worker, or other higher-level classified employees. Duties may involve the use of hand and power tools and the operation of light truck and construction equipment as a part of the assignment. Duties may be performed under adverse weather or working conditions. Ideal candidate will have mowing, pond maintenance, or street maintenance experience.

Job Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs duties such as right-of-way/pond maintenance (cutting grass, edging, weeding, laying sod, spreading grass seed, fertilizing)
  • Other duties include: unskilled painting, removing dirt and grease from vehicles, assisting in concrete work, servicing tools and automotive equipment, cleaning ditches and catch basins, and digging excavations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from a U.S. Department of Education accredited institution is preferred.
  • Some experience in manual labor is preferable in work which involves hand tools and simple power tools used in the construction trades.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements.

LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record are required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and write neatly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and verbal form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently and in a diligent manner.

  • Ability to use various hand and power tools related to the job.

  • Good physical condition is essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: This job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation and driving. The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions. Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty condition, with hands, feet, and/or legs in water and may handle chemicals.

Vision: 20/20 or Corrected to 20/100

Environment: Inside Work/Outside Work in Various Conditions

Hearing: Normal to Moderate Noise Levels for Work Environment
