GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The employee in this field of work is responsible for the general maintenance of the city’s water distribution and sewer collection systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·Comply with established work/ safety policies and procedures. Use of various personal protective equipment is required.

·Checks equipment thoroughly before use. Report defects in the equipment to the Utility Line Maintenance Supervisor before turning the item in for repair.

·Operate equipment safely, accurately, and proficiently.

·Perform preventive maintenance and make minor adjustments/ repairs to equipment in the field.

·Maintain the sewer collection system and related facilities. The primary operation utilizes sewer jetting machines or on seldom occasions the use of mechanical sewer rods. Repairs to main line breaks are done on a small scale as needed.

·Maintains water distribution system.

·Regularly scheduled visual inspections of the sewer lift-stations. Remove any items not capable of passing through small screen baskets. Light mowing and weed eating areas as needed.

·Mainline inspections using acoustic assessment tools to determine blockage conditions of gravity-fed sewer main lines. Closed circuit camera to visually inspect the interior conditions of the sewer main lines.

·Drive maintenance truck with jetting machine trailer attached. Operate various equipment such as but not limited to, a jetter, portable sewer rod machine with rods, backhoe, track hoe, water pumps, weed eater, zero turn mower, cordless tools (drill & saw), and various hand tools (shovels, rakes, hammer, wrenches, screwdrivers, chainsaw, etc.).

·Work is performed under the general supervision of the Utility Line Maintenance Supervisor. The operator is subject to review and direction by the supervisor, but generally performs assigned work with minimal supervision. Performs other tasks as needed.

·The employee is required to be on-call in a rotation schedule created by the Utility Line Maintenance Supervisor.

·May be assigned to work orders from Utility Billing Division.

· Read water meters.

·Responds to public complaints and assists within City codes.

·Repair and install water mains and fire hydrants.

·Ability to work with toxic substances, such as chlorine.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

· Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, follow verbal and/ or written instructions, carry out assignments with minimal supervision

·Must obtain a Class “D” Wastewater Operators License within six (6) months from date of hire.

·Must obtain a Class “D” Water Operators License within six (6) months from date of hire.

·Ability to work in adverse weather and capable of heavy manual labor as needed.

·Ability to maintain effective relationships with city officials, employees, and citizens.

·Possession of a valid Oklahoma State Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the city’s insurance carrier.

·Capable of lifting objects over 50 lbs. at frequent intervals.

·Physically capable of performing duties in extreme temperature variances.

ADDITIONAL/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

·Experience in wastewater collection/ treatment, plumbing, or pipeline construction operations.

·Experience in construction or pipeline operations.

·Possession of a Class “C” Oklahoma Water Operators License.

·Possession of a Class “C” Oklahoma Wastewater Operators License.

This job classification has been designated a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019.

Pay: $19.57 - $25.54 per hour
