Duties and Responsibilities:
- Protect life, property, and public safety within the community
- Maintain law and order
- Enforce laws and ordinances
- Conduct criminal and traffic investigations
- Identify, detain and arrest individuals violating the law
- Testify in municipal proceedings as required
- Maintain accurate and detailed records
- Foster positive relationships with community members, businesses and partner agencies
- Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain and improve required certifications and skills
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old
- Valid Montana driver's license or ability to obtain one
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition (must pass the Montana Physical Abilities Test)
- Good moral character
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent
- Montana P.O.S.T. certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
- Ability to legally possess a firearm
- No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write detailed reports and testify in court
- Skills in deescalating hostile or volatile situations
- Ability to handle stressful situations effectively
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Proficiency in computer systems and related technology
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Note: Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check, physical/drug screening, Montana Physical Abilities Test (MPAT), a one-year probationary period, and obtaining Montana P.O.S.T. Certification. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Salary and Benefits:
- Starting wage: $26.55/hour without Montana P.O.S.T. certification
- Wage increases to $27.55/hour upon obtaining Montana P.O.S.T. certification
