Now Hiring Code Compliance Officer/Building Inspector
The City of Decorah is seeking a motivated, customer-focused Code Compliance Officer / Building Inspector to help ensure our community remains safe, attractive, and well-built.
As the City's Code Compliance Officer / Building Inspector, you will:
- Review construction plans for compliance with building and zoning regulations.
- Perform inspections throughout all phases of construction.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Planning & Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment.
- Assist with nuisance abatement and property maintenance enforcement.
Successful candidates will possess:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five to seven years of experience in the building trades or a combination of education and related experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Knowledge of residential and commercial construction practices and applicable building codes.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints.
- Ability to obtain ICC certification in building, plumbing, or electrical inspection within two years of employment.
Post-secondary coursework and previous inspection or municipal experience are preferred but not required.
