CLASS SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for supervising the staff and operations of an assigned area. Responsibilities may include supervising staff; directing daily operations; and maintaining department inventory.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; coordinating staff training; and supporting personnel procedures.
- Directs operations of an assigned area, including: supervising staff to ensure proper completion of work; directing maintenance and repair of various equipment; and performing related tasks.
- Prepares various reports outlining department performance, completed work, and related matters; orders equipment and supplies to maintain proper inventory levels.
- Responds to emergency and/or standard repair requests; responds to water quality, sewer, and related inquiries or concerns from the public. Requires on-call availability.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Associate’s degree and 3 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
- S3 Water Distribution Certification
- Confined Space Entry Certification
- Competent Person Certification
- Work Zone Safety Certification
- Trenching and Shoring Certification
- MDEQ Industrial Storm Water A-1i Operator Certificate within six months of hire.
- Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License
PARTS AND WEIGHTS OF THE EXAMINATION:
Oral 100%
POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfactory completion of background check (sex offender registry if applicable) and a pre-employment physical and drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act.
- All appointees are subject to a one-year probationary period.
