BUILDING INSPECTOR(UNLICENSED)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for inspecting residential buildings to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances. Responsibilities may include performing inspections of residential properties; preparing reports; and responding to standard inquiries from the public.

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

• Inspects residential properties for compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Compiles information to complete reports outlining inspection findings; reviews inspection reports for accuracy.
• Prepares residential/commercial properties for rehabilitation or demolition as needed; monitors contractors in performing scope to ensure proper completion; completes all required regulatory documentation as required.
• Responds to standard inquiries from the public.
• Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Associate’s degree; or, High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and 1 year of related experience; or, all required certification(s); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License.
• Lead inspector and risk assessor certification (required within 90 days of hire, or when first class becomes available)
• Michigan Builders License preferred

POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:

• Satisfactory completion of background check and a pre-employment physical and drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act.
• All appointees are subject to a one-year probationary period.
