What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Court Clerk position at City of Dayton?

Job Summary:
The Deputy Court Clerk is responsible for the clerical and basic office functions of the municipal court. This position is not considered a safety-sensitive position.
Specific Duties:
- Prepares complaints about state law and city ordinance violations
- Administers oaths and authenticates official documents
- Advises defendants of basic procedures of the municipal court
- Writes and balances cash receipts from the court and prepares the deposit and refunds
- Performs court collections duties including but not limited to: processing extensions and providing past due notification to defendants by mail
- Assists Judge, Attorney, citizens, and defendants in the courtroom
- Assists in answering phone calls, typing, and handling correspondence with attorneys, defendants, etc.
- Takes and records plea
- Establish, enter and maintain accurate records for the court including dockets, complaints, citations, Failure To Appear System, and correspondence
- Handles all monies received for fines, restitution, and cash bonds and disburses as directed
- Attends municipal court and documents dispositions of cases
- Performs other related duties as required
Essential Functions:
- Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language
- Ability to dial, speak and hear on commercial telephones
- Ability to use office equipment such as a calculator, copier, fax machine, computer, printer, etc.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain alphabetical filing systems
- Ability to perform under stress when confronted with an emergency and critical situations
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or carry up to 35 pounds of office equipment or supplies
- Ability to remain seated for long periods of time
Required Education, Degrees, Certificates, and/or Licenses:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years of office experience is preferred but not required
- Basic computer knowledge using Google, Word, and Excel
- Experience dealing with the public and with cash handling
