Job Title: Public Works Maintenance Worker (Part-Time / 1099 Contractor) Department: Public Works Location: City of Dasher, Georgia
Job Summary: The City of Dasher is seeking a dependable and hardworking individual to assist with public works operations. This position is responsible for maintaining city property, roadways, and public spaces to ensure a clean, safe, and well-kept environment for residents and visitors.
Work Schedule:
Regular hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Additional hours may be required for city event setup and breakdown outside of regular working hours
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate lawn mowers to maintain city-owned properties and green spaces
Operate tractors for mowing right-of-ways and roadside areas
Perform road maintenance, including scraping and grading with tractor equipment
Conduct debris cleanup throughout the city, including removal of limbs, straw, leaves, and other materials
Trim and cut back trees, hedges, and vegetation as needed for safety and appearance
Apply weed control treatments, including spraying herbicides (e.g., Roundup) and chemicals in ditches to manage vegetation growth
Perform trash pickup in city areas, including public spaces and facilities
Assist with pressure washing of city property, sidewalks, and equipment
Assist with setup and breakdown of city events, including lifting, transporting, and arranging equipment and materials
Maintain equipment and report any mechanical issues
Follow all safety procedures and city policies while performing duties
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Ability to pass a drug test
Ability to provide a background check upon request
Ability to safely operate lawn equipment, tractors, and other maintenance machinery
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds or more on a regular basis
Basic knowledge of landscaping, grounds maintenance, and equipment operation preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Strong work ethic and reliability
Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
Attention to detail and commitment to quality work
Knowledge of safe handling and application of chemicals is a plus
Working Conditions: This position requires frequent outdoor work, exposure to heat, cold, and varying weather conditions. The role involves physical labor, including lifting, bending, standing, and operating machinery for extended periods.
Employment Classification: This is a 1099 independent contractor position and does not include employee benefits. The selected individual will be responsible for their own taxes and insurance as applicable.
