GENERAL Statement of Duties:
In a team environment, performs skilled work involving repair and maintenance of streets, parks, athletic fields and playgrounds. Performs all activities in pavement maintenance and repair, concrete repair, traffic marking and signing, and other general street maintenance functions. Performs all activities in winter street maintenance including snow plowing, salting and any other tasks as assigned. Performs all activities in parks, playgrounds and athletic fields maintenance and repair. Operates a variety of power and hand tools and is knowledgeable in their maintenance and repair. Certified in flagging and traffic control.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs all tasks and duties of the Public Works Technician Entry Level.
· Observes safety regulations; wears required personal protective equipment, follows recommended safety practices.
· Performs all activities and operates all equipment required for Pavement Maintenance, Repair and Rehabilitation except operating the Paving machine and 5 ton roller.
· Performs all activities and operates all equipment required for concrete forming, pouring and finishing.
· Performs all activities and operates all equipment required for traffic marking and signing.
· Performs all activities and operates all equipment required for landscape planting and maintenance. Performs basic tree trimming activities under direction of certified Tree Expert.
· Performs general maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, structural and mechanical systems for all Park Department facilities and structures.
· Performs athletic field maintenance; lays out sports fields in accordance with appropriate requirements.
· Operates a variety of motorized equipment including Loader, Bobcat, Tractor, Riding Mower, etc.
· Drives a dump truck during snow plowing and salting operations.
· Uses and/or operates hand and air tools, power equipment, and motor vehicles as required for performance of job duties.
· Performs pre-operation and post-operation inspection and maintenance of vehicles and equipment as directed.
· Provides general housekeeping for all facilities, including grounds keeping, general painting, and sweeping, cleaning of tools and equipment.
· Completes time sheets, and performs administrative tasks and paperwork related to specific jobs such those required of the Traffic Crew, Sweeper Crew, and Grass Cutting Crew.
· Understands and applies basic properties of materials and proper handling and placement procedures.
· Understands and applies basic drainage principles.
· Reads and follow construction plans and drawings.
· Performs basic calculations of material amounts.
· Works cooperatively with others and contributes to achieving performance objectives of a work team and of the Department.
· Receives and follows written and verbal instructions.
· Performs all responsibilities in accordance with City and Departmental standards, rules and procedures.
· Leads crew of two or more seasonal workers.
· Observes correct operating procedures and safety requirements for the handling of chlorine used for swimming pools.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED required. Possess a valid Class B CDL or must obtain within 3 months of hiring. Must have state flagging certification and herbicide applicator (Registered Worker) license or must obtain within 3 months of hiring.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
An employee must maintain a valid driver’s license which has no restrictions affecting the employee’s ability to perform this job and meets the insurability requirements of the City’s insurance carrier during the entire time the employee is employed by the City.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
