Applications for the Assistant Marina Manager position at Three Oaks Recreation Area are currently being accepted. This is a seasonal supervisory position at the Three Oaks Recreation Area, which assists with the daily operation and supervision of the marina, parking gate, and beach gate.

This is a seasonal position typically scheduled to work April through October.  Hours of work are of course weather dependent, however it is our goal to schedule this position 40 hours of work per week.  This position is also required to work a portion of the holiday weekends, which include Memorial Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

This position requires the candidate to be at least 18 years of age with a valid Illinois driver’s license and a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in staff supervision, training, inventory and cash control and the ability to demonstrate leadership in facility operations is preferred.  

Work is normally performed without direct supervision and an individual must be able to exercise independent judgment in meeting various situations.  This position reports to the designated staff in the City Manager's Office and supervises seasonal employees.  Will also function as a rotating Manager on Duty for all activities at the Three Oaks Recreation Area.Examples of Essential Duties
Some essential job functions include:
 
  • Assists with the planning, organizing and scheduling of marina, beach, and parking gate work shifts along with the supervision of employees engaged in retail, general operation, and customer service functions of the Three Oaks Recreation Area.  Ensures efficient fee collections, proper cash control procedures, and daily cash out procedure for all aspects of the operation.
  • Operates support craft on the lake in response to calls related to batteries, motors, and enforcement of safety policies.  Monitors lake and weather conditions, via observation and weather tracking applications.  Assists lifeguard staff in the event of a lake emergency.
  • Assists in reporting regular evaluation of employees capabilities and behaviors to the designated staff in the City Manager's Office.
  • Assists with supervision of employees, coordinates and inspects work activities to ensure that schedules are met and that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with standard operating practices and procedures.  
  • Assists with the coordination and supervision of all functions at the marina, parking gate, and beach gate.  Coordinates the opening and closing of the marina, parking gate, and beach gate.
  • Assists with the coordination of the movement of boats in and out of the water along with transportation of boat batteries and coordinates the attachment of marina supplies, including motors and batteries, to various boats.
  • Assists with first aid and/or water rescue situations throughout the facility.  
  • Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the beach, spray park and playground area.
  • Assists in performing and documenting regular water testing.  
  • Assists with the collection, issuance and care of all beach and marina rental equipment.
  • Assists with the planning, development and evaluation of public and employee safety issues at the Three Oaks Recreation Area.   Regularly inspects the grounds, buildings and equipment to ensure safe conditions and reports deficiencies to the appropriate staff and enforces facility rules.
  • Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community relations.


Typical Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, have technical skills in various software programs, and be detail-oriented in with multi-tasking capabilities in a fast-paced environment.  Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to deal tactfully with the public and a high level of integrity in dealing with sensitive information is essential.

Lake patrol boat and water safety course must be completed upon employment and this position must also successfully complete and obtain City-provided CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications within 30 days of employment.  

Supplemental Information
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch.
 
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with the appropriate assistance of proper equipment or team lifting techniques, in accordance with city safety protocol.  Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  
 
 This position will regularly work in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
