What are the responsibilities and job description for the Skate Guard position at City of Cottage Grove?
Skate Guard will be responsible for enforcing public skating rules and Ice Arena policies, ensure a safe skating environment for all users, maintain a safe, clean building at all times, provide quality customer service to patrons, and other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Actively monitor the ice and remind skaters to follow all safety guidelines and rink rules during Open Skate, Cosmic Skate and Stick and Puck.
- Actively monitor that all skaters have paid and have proper paid identification
- Address any unsafe behavior by skaters
- Assist skaters including beginners requiring guidance or individuals who have fallen and need assistance getting up
- Educate skaters about rink rules and encourage compliance to maintain a safe environment
- Respond to and notify management of any incidents, accidents, injuries, and altercations
- Alert management and assist with emergency situations as needed
- Assist with special events/birthday parties, including set-up, monitoring, and clean-up
- Provide courteous and friendly service to all guests and staff
- Know and enforce the facility's policies, procedures, and rules
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the ice and surrounding areas
- Be able to ice skate
- Can work with a wide variety of age groups
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to maintain focus in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Must have excellent guest service skills
- Must be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Ability to remain calm and focused in difficult and stressful situations
- Must be respectful and friendly to our guests, visitors, spectators, leaders, and fellow Team Members

- Must be able to work irregular shifts to include nights, weekends, holidays based on facility schedules
