Engineering Technician

The purpose of the role is to perform various activities exhibiting Civil Engineering principles and practices. Activities include drafting, plan reviews, permit reviews, and inspection services for water, sewer, paving, grading, stormwater drainage, telecommunication and building facilities, on both city and private development projects. While reporting to the City Engineer or respective designee, the technician shall ensure all work, improvements and modifications to infrastructure be compliant with all applicable city, state, and federal code regulatory requirements.

• Prepare and review engineering plans for but not limited to water, sewer, stormwater, roadway and building facility projects.
• Reads, reviews and interprets construction plans and specifications.
• Reviews and recommends engineering permits.
• Inspects, monitors and investigates stormwater runoff activities to ensure regulatory compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).
• Inspects public infrastructure to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
• Assists in the preparation of annual compliance reports such as the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and FEMA’s Community Rating System (CRS).
• Assists the engineering team with construction & engineering management by preparing meeting agendas, setting up pre-construction meetings, formulating meeting minutes and revising technical documentation.
• Locate and documents utility requests from vendors; inputs data, maintains files and records.
• Performs site inspections on City and private projects; inspections include but are not limited to water, sewer, paving, grading, stormwater drainage, telecommunication and building facility projects.
• Conducts substantial & final completion inspections; keeps data of project status and reports deficiencies.
• Research and signs off on driveway permits for the building department and follows up with contractors and homeowners about potential utilities conflicts.
• Advises management on construction projects that can have a direct impact on infrastructure.
• Assists various city departments and divisions by providing technical guidance as a subject matter expert.
• Associate Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or relevant commensurate job experience to demonstrate an understanding of the practices and principles within the civil engineering/construction industry.
• Minimum three (3) years of relevant full-time work experience in civil engineering, public works or construction.
• Preferred minimum of two (2) years’ experience in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil3D preparing civil plans.
• FDEP Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector (or ability to obtain in 6 months)
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
  
  

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
