Summary
The IT Technician supports the City’s technology infrastructure by maintaining hardware, software, network, and telecommunications systems while providing technical support and assisting with cybersecurity efforts to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient IT services across all departments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, mobile devices, and telecommunications equipment.
• Provide technical support for hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues.
• Maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, network diagrams, inventories, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
• Monitor network performance and perform routine network administration tasks, including VLAN modifications and port activations.
• Assist with cybersecurity monitoring, incident response, and vulnerability remediation efforts.
• Support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive.
• Participate in the evaluation, implementation, and support of new technologies, hardware, and software solutions.
• Perform routine system maintenance, backups, and disaster recovery activities.
• Provide technology guidance and training to end users.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree or technical training preferred.
- Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or network engineering.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Windows environments; Linux and macOS experience optional.
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 services.
- Knowledge of server virtualization, networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and subnetting), and cybersecurity best practices.
- Experience configuring and supporting routers, switches, wireless access points, and firewalls.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver License and pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call assignments as needed.
- CCNA certification preferred
- CompTIA A , Network , or Security preferred
- ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) or equivalent preferred
- CJIS Certification or ability to obtain required
