This is the entry-level class. Employees within this class are
distinguished by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties
assigned to positions within the division. Since this class is an
entry-level class, employees may have only limited or no directly
related work experience.
# SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate supervision from the Foreman.
Exercises no supervision.

Essential Functions
1\. Assist in the performance of a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled
manual tasks associated with the construction and maintenance of
streets, sidewalks and alleyways. For example: excavate and backfill
trenches with hand tools; load and unload trucks; shovel asphalt; make
and install signs; saw streets; paint; haul snow and debris.
2\. Observe storm sewers for flow; clean and clear as needed.
3\. Perform building maintenance on Public Service Barn.
4\. Assist higher-level workers in various maintenance and repair and
construction work.
5\. Inspect job site for potential problems and cleanliness upon
completion of work.
6\. Perform regular maintenance testing of equipment and machinery to
maintain quality assurance and high performance, (check oil, fuel,
water).
7\. Operate various trucks, hand tools and power tools such as concrete
saw and jackhammer, as assigned to accomplish duties.
8\. Communicate and interface with co-workers and the public.
Marginal Functions
1\. May assist in preparing streets, sidewalks and alleyways for various
holiday and community events.
2\. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
