Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Field Service Supervisor, performs field work dealing with reading meters and continuing or discontinuing water service. The Utility Field Service Representative is responsible for performing the connection and disconnection of water services, investigation of customer complaints, collecting meter readings and data, and processing delinquent accounts.
Essential Job Functions
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED certificate with (1) one year of experience in water service and customer relations; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Special Qualifications
For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida driver's license, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Required
The work is generally medium and may require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Work is performed primarily in an out-of-doors environment with exposure to the wind, rain, cold and heat. Work is performed in most cases on uneven ground, where errors can lead to physical.

Essential Job Functions
- Investigates customer complaints of high billings, damaged meters, leakage in water lines, property damage, and quality of service.
- Makes connections for new customers and disconnects water service for delinquent customers or transfers.
- Collects meter readings through visual inspection or electronically.
- Maintains records of work performed on a daily basis.
- The majority of position duties are required to be performed on-site.
- Completes and thoroughly documents and closes 40 work orders for a distinct location per day, on average.
- Drives frequently in various climate conditions while performing job duties.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of water meter reading and water supply equipment.
- Knowledge of the geographical and street locations in the central Brevard County area.
- Skill in the use of a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Office, and various office equipment.
- Ability to explain water utility procedure to customers.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with city officials and employees, the general public, and representatives of other agencies toward the accomplishment of assigned projects.
- Ability to gain the trust and cooperation of others to effectively communicate concepts and ideas.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of staff, other governmental representatives, and the public.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and maintain composure in difficult and/or stressful situations.
