GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
This position starts at a pay rate of $18.07 with a generous benefits package to include health, dental, vision, and life insurance. 11 paid holidays, PTO (paid time off) and pension plan.
Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled and unskilled work to assist in the maintenance and construction of City buildings/streets and equipment. Work involves the maintenance and repair of fences, City buildings, City streets and equipment; assisting with the repair of light equipment assigned to the department. Work also involves assisting with the clearing of land for designated areas and sidewalks; setting up and assisting with special events. Reports to the Public Works Streets Supervisor.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
- Perform light and heavy work associated with sidewalk repairs, maintenance and replacement. Repairs/replaces curbing does minor repairs of asphalt roadways. From carpentry skills a plus.
- Maintains and repairs fences in necessary areas; removes damaged portions of fences; replaces and repairs damaged portions of fences; installs new sections of fences and gates.
- Assists in the maintenance and construction of equipment and facilities such as shelters, maintenance shelters, and other structures associated with the Department
- Assists supervisor with the maintenance and repair of equipment assigned to the department; assists with routine maintenance of equipment.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with clearing land for new construction; operates heavy equipment, and both hand and power tools. Experience with hauling trailers, operating bobcats and backhoes is a plus.
Performs other work as required.
May be requested (required) to work during a declared emergency and may be requested to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee's Department Head or designee will make the determination when the employee will be requested (required) to work.

Qualifications:MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school, and 1 to 2 years’ experience in streets maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including tractors, backhoes, bobcats, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The job is rated for Medium Work.
