CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Examples of Duties
Transportation of juveniles to and from work sites; instruct juveniles how to use gardening tools properly and safely; monitor juveniles to make sure they are working safely; hook up trailers to city vehicles; operate city vehicles and trailers; evaluate and assess the attitude, behavior, and work performed by juveniles. In addition, effectively remove graffiti utilizing paint, pressure washers, paint sprayers, and specialized chemicals; use office machines and a police radio; utilize a computer to maintain appropriate records and statistics; perform general clerical duties; communicate with parents about policies, procedures and the program; and provide parents with information about the juvenile's attitude and performance.
Typical Qualifications
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Education equivalent to graduation from high school including completion of fifteen (15) college units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminology, Psychology, or closely related field.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience working with the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
- Basic math;
- Simple record keeping methods;
- Geography of the City of Clovis;
- Office equipment and procedures;
- Computer terminal operating methods.

Supplemental Information
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Strength: Light work-lifting, carrying and/or pushing 50 pounds maximum with some lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Working conditions: Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and some holidays.
- Environment: Perform job functions outdoors and may be required to work in all weather conditions including when it is over 100 degrees and in the cold during the winter months.
SELECTION PROCESS
Applicants must meet each qualification for the position at the time of application submission. All applications will be reviewed based on the necessary employment standards for the position. Selection shall be made from those applicants who submit a complete online employment application, supplemental questionnaire, meet the position requirements, receive a passing score on an initial application screening, and receive a qualifying score on an oral interview that will be weighted 100%. Oral interviews for the position will be administered in the City of Clovis. As determined by the City and at the City's expense, successful candidates shall be required to complete and pass a Personal History Questionnaire, an extensive background investigation, a polygraph or voice stress examination, a psychological examination, a medical examination, and a drug/alcohol screen. Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record will be required prior to hire. Proof of citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.
