What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airport Heavy Duty Mechanic (BKL) position at City of Cleveland?
Under supervision, inspects, repairs, adjusts, and services trucks and other motorized equipment 20,000 GVW and over. Makes other repairs and adjustments to secondary units. Performs other job-related duties as required.
High School Diploma or GEDrequired, a Diploma from High School or Trade School with training in heavy duty truck and diesel repair is preferred. Two years of full-time paid experience in the repair and maintenance of motorized heavy equipment 20,000 lbs. G.V.W. and over required. Must have the appropriate tools to perform required duties. Valid State of Ohio Driver's License required, an Ohio Commercial Driver's License preferred. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
Responsibilities:
Maintains vehicles, which include the organization’s fleet of cars, trucks, and heavy equipment over 20,000 GVW, tractor/trailers, secondary units and other motorized equipment.
Performs routine and preventive maintenance on all equipment
Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
Perform tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
Examines critical parts and systems and determine corrective action of maintenance through repair manual and experience.
Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
Safely test-drives vehicles and equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
Maintain appropriate records of activities.
Maintains tools and/or equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
Maintain a safe work area comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Must be willing to work any shift to cover operational needs including nights, weekends and holidays and is to participate in emergency preparedness events and activities.
Promotes and ensures compliance with occupational health and safety management policies, procedures, and programs to minimize employee accidents and to promote a safe work environment.
Performs other related duties asrequired.
Preferred Qualifications:
Diploma or Certificate of training in heavy duty truck and diesel repair from a High School or Trade School is preferred.
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in either Heavy Duty Trucks or Master Technician preferred.
Salary : $63,315 - $69,451
