What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sign Technician position at City of Clermont?
This position performs work installing and maintaining road signs and assisting with the maintenance of City roads and other related work as assigned. This position work under general supervision according to the procedures/processes. In some cases, the worker may determine how to complete tasks as needed.
This position is non-exempt. Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply.

Depending on assigned area, may be exposed to construction, water/wastewater, and other site hazards including, but not limited to, bright/dim lights, dust/pollen, intense noise, vibration, fumes/noxious odors, toxic/caustic chemicals, electrical shock, heights of 70 feet or more, disease/pathogens, traffic, and moving machinery.

- Performs duties related to the enhancement, cleaning, repair and maintenance of City signage along City maintained rights-of-ways, parks and City maintained facilities.
- Conducts preventive maintenance, receives and responds to work orders, and completes records regarding work performed.
- Drives and maintains vehicles, operates equipment and/or uses small power tools depending on assignment.
- Transports materials and equipment to/from work sites, makes deliveries and runs errands as assigned.
- May perform any of the following depending on assigned area: A) assists with cleanup operations during and/or after hurricanes and other inclement weather; B) performs custodial work including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms and offices and removing trash; C) sets up meeting rooms and facilities for events; D) may lock/unlock facilities and arm/disarm systems; E) puts up signs for events or other assigned tasks; F) handles traffic flow; G) collects and disposes of trash/refuse.
- Properly uses equipment and tools, follows safety practices (including personal protective equipment when required), and is continuously aware of occupational hazards during the performance of assigned tasks.
- Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of safety and quality. Ensures the timely completion of all assignments; and provides courteous and prompt customer service.
- Maintains records and prepares reports as required or requested.
- Attends training, meetings and workshops as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Required to be placed on the on-call rotation after the completion of probationary period.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of related work experience.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License
- Obtain restricted Class "B" Commercial Florida Driver's license with air brake endorsement within three (3) months from date of hire.
- Obtain Class "B" Commercial Florida Driver's license with air brake endorsement within six (6) months from date of hire.
- Obtain FEMA IS100 and IS700 within six (6) months of employment.
- Obtain a Maintenance of Traffic Certification as scheduled by Supervisor.
- Obtain a Sign and Pavement Marking Certifications I & II, as scheduled by Supervisor.

- Continual light work and occasional heavy work.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
- Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, and bending.
- Good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
- Good eyesight, hearing and speech.
- Regular driving of vehicle.
- Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.
