What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meter Reader position at City Of Clanton?
The City of Clanton is seeking to fill two (2) Meter Reader positions. The Meter Reader position is responsible for reading and recording usage data from City utility meters.
Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Reads water meters along assigned route to determine consumption.
Operates a handheld device to record meter readings.
Operates a vehicle and walks along assigned route to record meter readings.
Checks meters against normal consumption; identifies and reports leaks and outages.
Inspects meters for unauthorized connections, defects, and damage.
Performs utility disconnects and reconnects as directed.
Completes service requests and work orders.
Checks customer complaints and corrects service problems.
Assists with training as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record suitable for insurability.
Work Environment
Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Physical Requirements
- Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job: walking for extended periods of time, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling and lifting; working in inclement weather conditions rain, heat, cold, etc. (temperatures of over 90 degrees and below 32 degrees).
- Must be able to drive a vehicle to oversee projects, perform inspections, and other functions as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
Annual compensation for this job starts at $23,846.78. Depending on experience, education, and other training, higher rates of pay will be considered. The City of Clanton is proud to offer an excellent benefits package.
