Beautification Department Laborer

The City of Clanton is seeking to fill a full-time hourly position with a dedicated and motivated individual to join the Beautification Department as a Laborer. The overall function of the position is to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of public spaces within the City of Clanton.

Essential Functions

• Landscape Maintenance: Perform routine landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, planting, watering, and fertilizing in parks, medians, and other public areas.
• Trash and Debris Removal: Collect and dispose of litter, debris, and other refuse from designated areas to maintain cleanliness.
• Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, street sweeper, and small hand tools used in landscaping and maintenance work.
• Assist in Projects: Support the execution of beautification projects including but not limited to planting flowers, installing decorative elements, and maintaining irrigation systems.
• Compliance and Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, regulations, and departmental guidelines while performing tasks, ensuring a safe environment for oneself and others.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to achieve departmental goals and respond effectively to public inquiries and requests.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED strongly preferred.
• Prior experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or related field is preferred but not required.
• Ability to operate landscaping equipment and perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in work.
• Valid Alabama Driver License with satisfactory driving record required.
• Must be able to work non-standard hours, typically, this position works 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

• Must possess the ability to access remote sites that may require climbing and traversing rough terrain, possibly in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time while working in office or on maintenance or repair projects.
• Must be able to use stepstools or ladders and use such to store and retrieve items of various sizes, shapes, and forms.
• Lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds, and pull, push, or drag up to 150 pounds of files, equipment and/or other materials.
• Must possess general manual dexterity to operate computer, equipment, tools, controls, or other objects; reach with hands or arms.
• Must possess mental acuity for attention to accuracy and detail.
• Must see in the normal visual range with or without correction.
• Must hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
• Must be able to hear clearly when working around equipment and traffic.

Compensation

Hourly compensation begins at $13.50. Depending on experience, education, and other training, higher rates of pay will be considered. The City of Clanton is proud to offer an excellent benefits package.
