This employee performs paraprofessional architectural duties of a limited scope regarding the rehabilitation of public buildings and facilities; assists in urban design activities and the development of new construction; provides information to Architects and higher level Technicians; may assist in the design and may oversee rehabilitation activities or new construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications; may be assigned to assist in collecting information for facility management. Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge of:
Algebra, geometry, and trigonometry in order to perform mathematical computations.
Architectural detailing, design, and construction practices.
Building materials and the appropriate application of these materials.
Standard symbols used in architecture.
Certain reference material and technical manuals used in architect's office and associated with the designing of a project.

Skill to:
Prepare (draw) neat legible drawings in pencil or ink (maintaining good line quality).
Lay out and prepare architectural drawings of various types.
Do freehand lettering, press type lettering, and Kroy machine lettering guides.

Ability to:
Check on the quantity, quality, condition, and specification compliance of materials used in construction projects.
Calculate required information from dimensions, curves, angles, and other data on the plans and specification.
Use correct English in the preparation of reports and letters.
Prepare preliminary and final estimates.
Arrange and modify work schedules to permit the effective accomplishment of work by others.
Review utility maps, property records, etc., to assure the proper coordination of work and relationship to/with utility production services.

Examples of Work Performed

Locates original building plans and/or area maps and subsequent plans (if any) to determine if there have been alterations to structures or areas proposed for design studies.
Assists in the analysis of building conditions.
Surveys the present condition of a building along with professional assistance, focusing on the placement of utilities (e.g., electrical, lighting, HVAC, plumbing), parking, site development, traffic patterns, etc.
Talks to clients or users of a facility or community area to determine any special needs.
Develops a rough set of plans based on direction given by the supervisor and the client, showing enough detail to determine if the design is acceptable to the supervisor.
Performs mathematical computations regarding dimensions, grades, and evaluations of proposed design.
Drafts details and provides notes regarding doors, hardware, paint, floor coverings, and any other architectural features.
Prepares material lists for ordering furniture.
Prepares maps of urban design planning areas showing buildings within property lines, location, and restrictions to on-street parking, furniture locations, etc.
Selects for final review and approval by the supervisor building materials that are most appropriate by researching in-house information or consulting with factory representatives.
Describes special means of application or installation of these materials.
Determines costs by unit costs, system cost, or per-square-feet (or any other relevant "cost per" basis) of proposed building or public improvement construction by consulting cost estimate references.
Consults with factory representatives or building material suppliers about construction materials.
Provides appropriate information on bid documents and forwards documents to Purchasing Division so that project can be bid.
Gathers data concerning special studies or projects.
Analyzes data using algebra, geometry, trigonometry, or any other appropriate mathematical application.

Each applicant must have successfully completed 90 quarter credit hours from an accredited college or university in engineering, civil engineering, surveying calculations, route or land surveying, architectural drafting, architectural computer assisted design or drafting, engineering mathematics, geographic information systems, subdivision design, construction management, or reinforced concrete   OR   have two years of paid architectural and/or engineering technical work experience performing tasks similar to those of an Architectural Technician 1 and have successfully completed 45 quarter credit hours from an accredited college or university in the courses listed above.

MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

Salary : $58,016 - $67,997
