This position is scheduled to work up to 18–22 hours per week, primarily Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, with additional weekend hours as needed for program events.

The Community Services, Parks & Recreation Department enriches lives by providing a wide range of recreational opportunities, parks, and social services for residents of all ages. The Department offers programs focused on youth, families, seniors, and individuals, promoting positive alternatives, healthy lifestyles, and community connection. From fitness and social activities to prevention and counseling services, it supports the well-being of the community in a safe and welcoming environment. The Department also manages citywide special events and operates local cultural attractions like the Chino Youth Museum and Old Schoolhouse Museum, while the Parks and Facilities Division ensures the care and development of all city parks and facilities. Guided by its mission to impact lives and build a connected community, this department plays a vital role in enhancing Chino’s quality of life.


What You’ll Do

As our new Boxing Trainer, you will:

  • Train, coach, and motivate youth and adult participants in boxing while teaching proper techniques, conditioning, and safe training practices.
  • Lead boxing classes, team practices, and workouts, providing instruction, feedback, and skill development opportunities for participants of all experience levels.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and disciplined environment that promotes sportsmanship, personal growth, and healthy competition.
  • Coordinate program activities, monitor participant safety and behavior, and maintain boxing equipment and facilities in a clean and safe condition.

What We’re Looking For

Someone who:

  • Has experience coaching, instructing, or participating in boxing, fitness, athletics, or related recreational programs.
  • Enjoys mentoring youth and adults while creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for participants.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with a commitment to safety and excellent customer service.


Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a boxing training participant or coaching a boxing program.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
    • Possession of a valid USA Boxing Coach Certification issued by USA Boxing to be maintained throughout employment.
    • Possession of a valid First Aid, AED, CPR, and Blood Borne Pathogens certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months, to be maintained throughout employment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Mobility to work in indoor and outdoor boxing facilities; stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, and perform physical activities associated with boxing instruction and program supervision.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and visit various community sites.
  • Vision, hearing, and speech sufficient to monitor activities, demonstrate techniques, communicate with participants, and ensure a safe training environment.
  • Strength and stamina to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance.
  • Work in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to loud noise, indoor and outdoor weather conditions, dust, and other recreational facility environments.
  • Availability to work evenings, Monday through Friday, and occasional weekends; some assignments may require varied shifts or alternate schedules based on program needs.
