- Confidently operating various equipment and tools as necessary for assignment.
- Effectively providing direction and training to a crew in using various tools, equipment, and safety precautions.
- Establishing and maintaining positive and collaborative working relationships with City staff, contractors, and the public.
- Read, interpret and apply technical information from manuals, drawings, specifications, layouts, blueprints and schematics or verbal direction.
- Working day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as required; responding to emergency calls and taking appropriate action as needed.
- Understanding and following verbal and written instructions; communicating clearly and concisely.
- Respond to inquiries, complaints and requests courteously.
- Utilizing a computer to maintain accurate logs and records of work performed; preparing appropriate reports and documentation.
- Recognizing unusual, inefficient, or dangerous operating conditions and recommend appropriate correction.
- Lead a maintenance crew in the safe performance of all division duties; act as a technical resource on complex projects.
Operate a variety of tools and equipment such as rollers, dump trucks, skip loaders, jackhammers, air compressors, paint stripers and tractors.
Remove, replace and repair hazards in streets, such as potholes and cracks.
Break up, repair, mix, form and finish concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and ramps.
Place traffic control and warning signs; serve as a flag person to control traffic; set up cones, barricades and other safety zone methods as needed.
Load, transport and unload stone, gravel, asphalt, slurry materials, dirt and a variety of other materials.
Construct and repair manholes.
Maintain and install street and traffic signs.
Clear storm drains, catch basins and culverts.
Paint parking stalls, crosswalks, curbs, street lines and street markings.

Additional position details:
- Eligible for On-Call and Call-Back pay (depending on assignment needs)
- Eligible for Commercial Driver's License pay
- 9/80 Work Schedule
To be considered for the position any combination of experience, education and/or training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may qualify.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in maintenance and repair in the assigned division.
Highly desired: Experience in a lead or supervisory role
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
High School diploma or equivalent; Preferred: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance; supervisory or public works course work preferred.
LICENSE:
Possession of a valid California Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements is required throughout employment.
Highly desired: California Class A License

RECRUITMENT SCHEDULE
Qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview/testing assessment, tentatively scheduled for the week of July 6th.
The next phase of the process will be the department selection interview scheduled for the week of July 13th.
All original appointments who have never held active status in a classification will be required to serve a 26-pay period probationary period (approximately one year). If a current employee who has held active status is selected, it will be considered a promotional appointment, and they will be required to serve a 13-pay period probationary period (approximately six months).
Salary : $62,504 - $76,003
