The City of Chickasha is seeking a customer-focused, organized, and detail-oriented Permit Technician to support our Community Development Department. This position serves as the first point of contact for contractors, developers, homeowners, and the public, providing excellent customer service while assisting with permits, contractor registrations, planning documents, and department administration.

What You'll Do

As the Permit Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the City's building and development process by:

  • Serving as the primary customer service representative for the Community Development Department.
  • Issuing residential and commercial trade permits and other minor permits.
  • Receiving and processing permit applications, construction plans, and supporting documentation for plan review.
  • Maintaining permit, inspection, contractor registration, and archived building records within the MyGov permitting system.
  • Assisting contractors and property owners with permit requirements and application procedures.
  • Managing the City's contractor registration program, including renewals and verification of required credentials.
  • Processing permit, registration, and licensing payments received online, by mail, over the phone, and in person.
  • Reconciling daily receipts and preparing deposits.
  • Assisting with public records requests related to permits, inspections, and building plans.
  • Preparing meeting notices, legal publications, agendas, and minutes for boards and commissions.
  • Maintaining oil well permit renewals and associated records.
  • Providing administrative support for Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement operations.
  • Answering multiple telephone lines, greeting visitors, directing inquiries, and providing information to the public.
  • Performing general office duties including filing, scanning, scheduling, purchasing, and record management.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Successful candidates should possess:

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn permitting software such as MyGov.
  • Ability to accurately maintain financial records, process payments, and reconcile daily receipts.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, contractors, developers, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Construction Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience working in permitting, planning, building inspection, municipal government, construction, or a customer service/administrative environment is preferred.
  • Experience using permitting or records management software is a plus.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily performed in an office environment and requires:

  • Frequent interaction with the public, contractors, and developers.
  • Extended periods of sitting, standing, computer work, and telephone use.
  • Handling confidential records and financial transactions with accuracy.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
