SUMMARY
Storm Water Services is seeking a Utility Coordinator that will be reporting to the Construction Manager for Utilities in the Construction and Utilities Division. The Utility Coordinator will be responsible for utility coordination and relocation efforts in preparation for future stormwater projects including Major and Minor Flood Control and Water Quality.The salary range for this position is $34.25 - $38.04/hr. Commensurate with Experience
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent the City’s interest on all utility coordination and relocation needs.
- Maintain and enhance relationships with all utility companies.
- Identify and analyze utility impacts, conflicts, and relocation needs; facilitate resolution, and monitors status of utility relocation efforts for projects assigned.
- Maintain project specific documentation.
- Review private utility plan and markups.
- Review private utility cost estimates.
- Assist with contract and consultant invoices and submittals.
- Call in 811 tickets for utility verification.
- Check relocation sites for complete and correct markings.
- Request survey on utilities identified in the field.
- Ensure survey is complete before staking meetings.
- Conduct staking meetings.
- Monitor utility relocations for correctness and completeness.
- Gather information when conflicts arise and provide to supervisor for resolution.
- Help manage site prep to accommodate approved utility relocation plans and the utility relocation schedule as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of materials, methods and practices used in various types of construction.
- Basic knowledge of utility systems, specifications, and regulations.
- Good communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- Good problem-solving skills using logic and reasoning based on critical thinking with the ability to make decisions on a timely basis, identifying effective approaches for choosing a course of action and/or developing appropriate solutions within a team atmosphere.
- Basic knowledge of computer software applications including spreadsheets and word processing.
- Requires good driving record, a valid Driver’s License, a dependable passenger vehicle, and ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit.
- Previous construction experience in storm drainage system installation.
- Basic understanding of and experience in landscaping and site restoration.
- Basic understanding and experience in water quality best management practices.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, construction management, or related field
- Minimum of five years direct public or private work experience in storm drainage installation and roadway construction
- Experience with private utility coordination
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED with five (5) years of relevant work experience, or an associate degree with three (3) years of relevant work experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
