Join our team as a Municipal Court Clerk Intern and play a meaningful role in supporting the efficient delivery of court services to our community.

The purpose of this internship is to support the Cedar Hill Municipal Court by assisting with daily court operations, maintaining and processing required records, and contributing to special projects that enhance overall efficiency. The intern provides assistance to the Municipal Court Clerk’s Office by operating computer systems, processing paperwork, and offering support wherever needed. Responsibilities may include heavy data entry, scanning, shredding, processing cases after court dockets, printing and mailing correspondence, and participating in special projects or special events as assigned. This position does not provide direction to other employees. 

This position will work approximately 20 hours per week. The hours are flexible, but must be between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday.
  • Provides premier customer service to citizens, internal and external customers by responding to requests in a positive, timely, effective and professional manner.
  • Greets customers in person and over the phone to answer questions regarding their municipal court business and or other city business such as frequently asked questions; answers concerns/questions via telephone or written correspondence.
  • Administers case dispositions by entering disposition of cases after each docket, processing DSC and deferred adjudications, and accepting and posting payments.
  • Assists court clerks by preparing dockets, notifying defendants, attorneys, officers, complainants and witnesses, preparing and mailing subpoenas, and preparing summons.
  • Assists Judge by receiving payment of fines, compiling information for reports, helping individuals over the phone or at the window and providing information when needed.
  • Coordinates reports, driving safety course requests and citations by coding, entering and filing information, reporting juveniles who fail to appear from each plea docket, notifying parents of juvenile court dates and reporting those individuals who fail to pay fines.
  • Performs others related duties position may require. Assists with specialized projects assigned by court leadership, which may include:
    • Workflow or process improvement reviews
    • Data entry or analysis for operational reporting
    • Technology-related tasks such as digital file organization or template creation.
    • Community outreach or educational materials.
    • Conducting research and prepare recommendations to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Requires regular attendance
  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.  

  • Preference may be given to candidates enrolled in a program in the legal field, criminal justice, public administration, government, or a related area of study, for which a degree or a certificate may be awarded. Demonstrated interest in court operations, government service, or the legal profession is preferred, along with a strong desire to learn more about Municipal Court operations.

  • Basic experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Canva preferred.

  • Prior customer service experience, including cash handling preferred. 

  • Must be able to pass a police background check and be eligible for access to Criminal Justice Information Systems.
