Upon hire, Public Safety Tele-Communicators will participate in a paid program to receive extensive training on all of the skills needed to be a successful Public Safety Tele-Communicator. After gaining the required experience and certifications, employees can progress to a Tele-Communicator Level II or Level III, which will increase earning opportunities.

This position is eligible to naturally progress to a Public Safety Tele-Communicator II once the incumbent meets all the requirements for a Public Safety Tele-Communicator II and is pre-authorized by the Department Head, who must determine the operational need and budgetary requirements prior to an incumbent obtaining these requirements and/or working in this capacity.

- Answer incoming 9-1-1 emergency, non-emergency and administrative phone calls in a prompt, professional and courteous manner. Independently assess, prioritize, and process each call through lines of questioning and soliciting information and, when necessary, dispatch the appropriate public safety response based on urgency of the situation in accordance with policies and procedures
- Maintains operational records and logs.
- Dispatches appropriate units to specific calls utilizing a radio console; tracks calls and notifies appropriate individual(s) of situations requiring their attention.
- Logs incoming calls and dispatch information into an automated system; enters information pertinent to incoming calls, dispatched agencies, response times and actions taken; and maintains records of calls and dispatching activities.
- Monitors the status and location of all on-duty public safety units.
- Enters, updates, and retrieves information from CAD (Computer Aided Dispatching) and NCIC (National Crime Information Center).
- Performs clerical work including typing, filing, gathering information and telephone use.
- Receives and evaluates complaints and general inquiries from the public and refer them to the appropriate department or agency.
- Administers pre-arrival instructions to citizens before police, fire and/or medical assistance arrives.
- Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in emergency dispatching or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed below.
- Demonstrate ability to type a minimum of 55 WPM, with no more than 10 errors, prior to hire date.
- Possession of a Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Dispatch certification.
- Possession of an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification.
