Under the general supervision of the Principal or designated supervisor, the Guidance/Teacher Counselor works collaboratively with students, school staff, families, and the community to provide a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program aligned with the mission of Oasis Charter Schools. This position supports academic achievement, personal/social development, and college and career readiness for all students, ensuring equity, access, and success in a safe and inclusive learning environment. 

Background Screening Requirement:
 Florida law requires all school personnel to undergo a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Education’s Background Screening Clearinghouse. In accordance with House Bill 531, employment is contingent upon an applicant’s eligibility for clearance and the successful completion of all required background screenings prior to hire.

  • Works collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the community to promote student growth through counseling, intervention, curriculum development, and responsive services.
  • Consults with school administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents/guardians to meet the academic, emotional, and developmental needs of students. Refers students and families to appropriate external support services as needed.
  • Adheres to the ethical standards and best practices of the school counseling profession. Maintains current professional knowledge through continuing education, professional development, and participation in relevant conferences or trainings.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive school counseling program using data-driven practices.
Academic Development:
  • Delivers a student-centered counseling curriculum focused on promoting effective learning strategies and lifelong academic success.
  • Assists students in planning and achieving academic goals, including transitions between grade levels and preparation for post-secondary education.
  • Supports academic achievement by helping students understand the relationship between school performance and future opportunities.
  • Collaborates with teachers and families to address academic concerns and improve student outcomes.
Career Development:
  • Guides students in exploring career options and developing awareness of their strengths, interests, and values in relation to potential careers. 
  • Provides resources and strategies for students to make informed decisions about post-secondary plans and career pathways.
  • Helps students understand how education and training relate to career success and satisfaction.
Personal/Social Development:
  • Promotes students' self-awareness, self-respect, and respect for others through individual and group counseling.
  • Supports students in developing interpersonal and communication skills to build healthy relationships.
  • Facilitates learning opportunities that encourage responsible decision-making, goal setting, and problem-solving.
  • Teaches and reinforces safety, self-advocacy, and coping strategies to promote emotional well-being.
  • Fosters a climate that supports understanding and appreciation of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Alternatives to the minimum qualifications can be made by the Board as they find appropriate and acceptable.
Education:
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling or a related field.
Experience:
  • One (1) year of related work experience.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate with coverage in guidance.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for working with students.
  • Specialized knowledge and skill in the scheduling and delivery of individual and group counseling, assessment, interpretation, and consultation with students, families, and colleagues
  • Specialized knowledge and skills in curriculum development, coordination of school counseling and program activities and initiating referrals to educational and community resources.
  • Ability to recognize and react appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to make decisions related to student needs in a variety of educational settings.
  • General knowledge of report and record keeping principles and techniques.
  • General knowledge of business mathematics.
  • Skilled in both written and oral communications and interpersonal skills for effective expression and clarity.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of modern office equipment, i.e., computers, facsimile machines, and copiers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, support staff, and others.
  • Ability to organize and review work for efficient results and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform duties with consistent courtesy and tact in the best interest of the public.
  • Ability to issue and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
