Job Description
The City of Camas Community Development Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Permit Technician. The individual selected will perform a variety of administrative support functions and report to the Building Official.
The hours for this in-person position are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Upon completion of probationary period, a hybrid work schedule may be optional. The position is represented by the Camas Public Employees’ Association and is eligible for a full benefits package.
Job Duties
What You'll Do
You will play a key role in supporting department operations, ensuring efficient administrative processes, and providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers. Responsibilities may include:
- Process land-use and building permit applications accurately and efficiently.
- Provide excellent customer service to residents, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Explain City policies, procedures, and permitting requirements.
- Answer phones and respond to public inquiries professionally.
- Maintain and update permit tracking systems and County GIS records.
- Prepare residential and commercial certificates of occupancy.
- Support daily administrative operations with strong attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for this position shall have:
- Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in office procedures, or a related field.
- Four (4) years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience.
- Experience with Tyler Technologies’ configuration systems, or similar permit tracking systems, is desirable.
In addition to the job description requirements, the preferred candidate will possess the following attributes: positive attitude, ability to take initiative, excellent customer service skills, good verbal and written communication skills, excellent computer skills, demonstrated organizational and decision-making skills and flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed.
