Cañon City is proud of their rich heritage and many cultural and artistic venues. Located in the Southcentral portion of Colorado, it is a Home Rule Municipality and the county seat of Fremont County. It is a Council-Administrator form of government with the Administrator reporting directly to the City Council. Cañon City was founded in 1858 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush and was originally intended as a commercial center for mining in South Park and the upper Arkansas River. With a city population of over 16,700, Cañon City straddles the easterly flowing Arkansas River and is a popular tourist destination for whitewater rafting, sightseeing and rock climbing.

**ABOUT THE POSITION**

Attend authorized Police Academy earning an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Law Enforcement. Upon completion of Academy and under close supervision, receives field training and performs a variety of duties for the Cañon City Police Department.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and must have a valid Colorado Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of hire, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Cañon City. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen and 21 years of age at time of swearing in. Applicants must be eligible for Colorado Police Officer Standards and Training Certification.
