What you will do:Performs skilled tire and vehicle services on a variety of automobiles, trucks, construction, and off-road equipment; does related work as required at the city Equipment Services facility. This is an entry level position focused on tire service and preventative maintenance.
Expected Hiring Range: $35,547.20 -$ 39,101.92. A starting salary above the range listed may be considered for highly qualified individuals not to exceed the maximum of the grade.
- Tire Repairs and Replacements: Handles repairs and replacements for automotive, truck, and off-road equipment tires and wheels.
- Preventative Maintenance: Performs essential tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, and general upkeep to maintain vehicle and equipment performance.
- Routine Inspections: Checks tire wear, fluid levels, wipers, lights, and signals to ensure safety and compliance with standards.
- Emergency Assistance: Responds promptly to road service calls for vehicle and equipment issues.
- Workplace Upkeep: Cleans and maintains tire shop areas, tools, and equipment for optimal functionality and safety.
- Technical Assistance: Supports technicians with repair and maintenance duties, ensuring efficiency and precision.
- Parts Management: Picks up necessary parts and supplies to facilitate smooth operations.
- Safety Compliance: Ensures all tasks align with OSHA regulations and City Safety Standards and Policies.
- Tire Service Expertise: Familiar with principles of tire service and proficient in the use of trade tools.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalency and 6 months of work experience of preventive maintenance experience as a mechanic’s helper, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid NC Driver’s license
- Inspection License or obtain NCI and OBD II (On-Board Diagnostic Certification Program for emissions) State Inspection Certificate within 6 months of your hire date. We will assist you with obtaining as needed.
- Work in this class is described as moderately strenuous and frequently requires physical exertion to complete tasks and move objects.
- Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Employees must have the visual acuity to perform detailed inspection of small defects or parts, use measurement devices, and assemble parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Employees must also have the visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and use machines such as hoists, lifts, and perform semi-skilled tasks of a non-repetitive in support of trades’ personnel.
- Employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to heat, chemicals, noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions due to exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, hot metal exhausts, and greases and oils.
- Employees are required to wear a respirator in certain circumstances.
- Employees may work in close quarters, crawl spaces, under or on top of large vehicles, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia or dizziness from heights.
- Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.
