JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

Under direction general supervision, to perform connection services, skilled repairs of meters, and disconnecting and reconnecting services of water and electricity to the residents of Burley, is responsible for delivering internal mail for the different departments within the city; and to perform related work as assigned.

Essential Functions:

§ Disconnect electrical and water usage on all resident and business move – outs and move in’s;

§ Deliver all the tags for disconnect for non-payers.

§ Daily delivers the inner mail for the city.

§ Checks readings for accuracy for electric and water.

§ Assist Electric Department crews when necessary.

§ Reading and interpreting repair manuals and schematic diagrams.

§ Performing basic maintenance and repairs on electric equipment.

§ Keep accurate records and reports of work performed and materials used on jobs.

§ Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

§ Communicate effectively.

Supervisory Responsibility

This positon has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position primarily works outdoors, in all types of weather, and in potentially hazardous environments.

Physical Demands

The physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Requires the ability to exert a considerable amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and to stoop, crouch, work prone to reach work, climb and lift in the performance of manual labor; to operate a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles; to work around electrical equipment in a safe manner. Tasks require color and visual perception and discrimination, as well as oral communications ability.

Position Type/ Expect Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM and 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Frequent evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Ability to respond to after hour outages, emergences, or other situations. You will be required to be “On Call” for seven (7) days at a time Friday to Friday. This will be around but not limited to 8 times a year where you need to be able to respond within twenty (20) minutes.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

Equivalent to a High School Diploma. Must have an Idaho CDL Driver’s license within six months of employment and have a satisfactory driving record. Must demonstrate safe work practices.

Preferred Education and Experience

Equivalent to a High School Diploma. Learn the operating principles, methods and materials, and skillful performance of troubleshooting, diagnosing, testing, repairing, performing preventive maintenance, modifying of electrical and high voltage electrical systems.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle operator’s insurance policy. Experience in the repair of electrical equipment and experience in public relations.
